FLOOD!

We had a major flood here this week. It was considered a 100 year flood. As long as i have lived here there has never been a flood that threatened peoples homes and lives. Every bridge in town is damaged if not gone completely. the picture above is the bridge right behind our restaurant. People have lost their homes...literally. homes came off their foundations and floated down the river. The National Gaurd flew over 200 people out of a danger zone. People can not get to and from their homes to such how much damage has been done. bridges will have to be repaired in order for people to goback to their homes. It washed out roads and one mand died. the most devastating part, besides the fact that someone lost their life, is that not many people had flood insurance. They have lost everything and have no way to pay for it to be built back. please keep these people in your prayers.
We are fine we live on a hill and our restaurant is up on a hill as well. Mike had gone to work early on sunday to take some ice to work and he took owen with him. i woke up to Scarlett saying, "umm mom daddy is gone." and so i called him to ask him where he was and he said, Do you know it is flooding? i said, "No...i just woke up" he told me that our bridge was gone at river's edge and he had no way to get home. they ended up being able to take some back roads and they made it home safe. later in the day, when the rain stopped, we drove around and looked at what damage we could see and scarlett looked at me and said..."this is verrry mysterious!","we must investigate", thank you Backyardagains.
Sunday just happened to be mikes first day off of work all summer and we had a day full of fun planned. we got a late start but we still got to get out of town for a while and have some fun. plus it was nice to get away from all of the devastation in ruidoso.
