FLOOD!

We had a major flood here this week. It was considered a 100 year flood. As long as i have lived here there has never been a flood that threatened peoples homes and lives. Every bridge in town is damaged if not gone completely. the picture above is the bridge right behind our restaurant. People have lost their homes...literally. homes came off their foundations and floated down the river. The National Gaurd flew over 200 people out of a danger zone. People can not get to and from their homes to such how much damage has been done. bridges will have to be repaired in order for people to goback to their homes. It washed out roads and one mand died. the most devastating part, besides the fact that someone lost their life, is that not many people had flood insurance. They have lost everything and have no way to pay for it to be built back. please keep these people in your prayers.
We are fine we live on a hill and our restaurant is up on a hill as well. Mike had gone to work early on sunday to take some ice to work and he took owen with him. i woke up to Scarlett saying, "umm mom daddy is gone." and so i called him to ask him where he was and he said, Do you know it is flooding? i said, "No...i just woke up" he told me that our bridge was gone at river's edge and he had no way to get home. they ended up being able to take some back roads and they made it home safe. later in the day, when the rain stopped, we drove around and looked at what damage we could see and scarlett looked at me and said..."this is verrry mysterious!","we must investigate", thank you Backyardagains.
Sunday just happened to be mikes first day off of work all summer and we had a day full of fun planned. we got a late start but we still got to get out of town for a while and have some fun. plus it was nice to get away from all of the devastation in ruidoso.

swimming

scarlett learned how to swim...with floaties. this is a huge step up because before this summer she would not even let go of me or put her head under water. i was sooooo proud of her. owen on the other hand wanted nothing to do with me or anyone else. he just wanted us to let him swim on his own. so i let him go under water a few times. and he liked it. he kept pushing me away, like "i dont need you mom, i can do this myself".

snails!

scarlett loves snails and when it rains here they come out of their hiding spots and scarlett likes to hold them and kiss them. i know it is gross!

the differences between boys and girls

We are now seeing how different owen is than scarlett. he is such a daredevil! i never had to worry about scarlett putting anything in her mouth or jumping off of furnature or even climbing on things. our house really is not very baby proof. we dont have covers over the outlets, we dont have locks on the cupboard doors, and scarlett has a bunch of toys with little pieces. Owen crawls on the floor and within ten minutes he has at least three things hidden in his cheeks. he will look at us with his mouth tightly shut and his eyes looking around and we know that he is hiding stuff in there. or we know when he chokes or poops something out like a sticker or a rubber band. it stresses me out. he needs a muzzle. also he psuhes things all over the house and growls at the same time. scarlett never growled! when we are ironing things in the morning he will lift the ironing board up or pull it away from us. the other morning we woke up to a tumbling noise...i knew what it was immediatly. owen was falling down our stairs! it was absolutley the most terrifying sound in the world. mike and i jumped out of bed and ran screaming down the stairs after him. luckily he was fine, just a few brusies. i am so thankful that God is watching over our family! needless to say, we have gates upstairs and downstairs locked at all times now, whether we are sleeping, awake or just running downstairs for something...the gates are always locked!
